In 1975 he had curated the Venice Biennale , the first in which he had officially architecture appeared «as an extension of the Visual Arts sector». His latest work was the renovation from the former factory to the theater of the Leopolda Foundry Theater in Follonica (Grosseto).

The lament of the Minister of Cultural Heritage, Dario Franceschini : «With deep sadness I learn of the disappearance of Professor Vittorio Gregotti. A great Italian architect and urban planner who has given prestige to our country in the world. I cling to the family on this sad day ». The mayor of Milan, Beppe Sala: «With deep sadness we greet Vittorio Gregotti, one of our greatest architects and ambassadors in the world. Milan owes a great deal to him, from the first room built at the Triennale in 1951 to the Bicocca district which he completely redesigned. Thanks for everything”. The message of the rector of the Polytechnic of Milan, Ferruccio Resta: “A great man of culture to whom we owe a lot and which we will not forget”.

Even the architect and president of the Triennale Stefano Boeri joins the voices of those who mourn Gregotti. «In these gloomy hours, a master of international architecture is leaving, a essayist, critic, teacher, editorialist, polemicist, man of the institutions who made the history of our culture ». Marco Tronchetti Provera, executive vice president and CEO of Pirelli: “With Vittorio Gregotti one of the great protagonists of twentieth-century architecture disappears, who has also contributed to changing the face of Milan, projecting it into an international dimension. Among other things, he was responsible for the design and redevelopment of the Bicocca area and Pirelli Headquarters, one of the best examples of industrial conversion. My most affectionate thoughts go to his family “.

To those who asked him what projects he was most proud of , Vittorio Gregotti used to answer this: “The job that represents me most is always the last”.
